Opentop's CleanConnect VLC challenge related to weather alerts
14/06/2022. Opentop continues and increases its commitment to entrepreneurship and the logistics-port sector with the active participation in the 2nd edition of CleanConnect VLC. We have presented a challenge with which we hope to mobilize the talent of the sector that will undoubtedly exceed all our expectations, as already happened with the celebration of the II Opentop Hackathon.
In this case, we are looking for solution proposals for a "Real-time alert visualization system for weather forecasting". We chatted with Laura Morcillo Montalbá, R+D+i Technician - Climate Change about this challenge and the Opentop initiative.
The role of Opentop in the sector
Opentop plays a key role in the promotion and development of this challenge with a strong technological profile, which not only aims to promote and support the innovation of technology startups that provide disruptive solutions in the port sector, but also has a strong commitment to the climate emergency at international, regional and local level.
What role does innovation play?
The innovation of this challenge is to create a warning system that can inform in real time when an operational limit is going to be exceeded due to a short-term extreme weather event.
A further step in the innovation of this challenge would be for the warning system to be based on artificial intelligence, using predictive learning algorithms to warn of possible future weather hazards that may develop into a longer-term risk.
What do we expect with the challenge Real-time alert visualization system for weather forecasting?
The objective of this challenge is to improve the alerts of possible climate risks for the operations of the port of Valencia derived from the intensity of extreme weather events, as a consequence of global change.
This improvement in the alerts will allow a more effective and efficient response of the Port Authority in anticipating and taking measures sufficiently in advance when there is a climate risk that may affect the port ecosystem. This will not only reduce the risk but also the costs derived from the disaster, thus building a resilient and sustainable port over time.
This program call connects companies with the talent of startups and is an initiative of the City Council of Valencia, Valencia Activa, TechCity VLC and Avaesen.
We encourage you to participate in the CleanConnect VLC of which you can find out in detail on the page of the call. Of course, we hope that you find the Opentop challenge tempting and that many companies and startups are encouraged to participate.
You can get information and register until July 10th, don't think twice!
