- Under the slogan "Decoding complexity", this tenth edition of the South Summit brought together 650 speakers, 220 media and 200 funds totaling $250 billion.
13/06/2022. The South Summit is the biggest entrepreneurship and innovation event of the year in Europe, and Opentop, Valenciaport's Innovation Hub, has had the opportunity to make the best of itself to take advantage of these days where high caliber companies, institutions, startups and entrepreneurs have gathered under the motto "decoding complexity". Undoubtedly a great opportunity that we have not missed 💪🏼.
Opentop has been present during the three days of this event in Madrid, from 8 to 10 June 2022, with a physical stand where we have been able to serve all visitors who have been approaching during these three days.
Opentop's participation in the South Summit
Antonio Torregrosa, General Director of Fundación Valenciaport kicked off Opentop 's participation in this 10th edition of the South Summit on Wednesday by moderating an interesting talk "The Port Where Innovation Docks" in which he interviewed Alfonso de los Ríos, CEO and Cofounder of Nowports, the first and largest digital freight forwarder in Latin America.
In this talk, they discussed innovation in ports, and how to optimize large-scale transportation to make it more efficient and intelligent.
Torregrosa, who took the opportunity to present the Opentop initiative, got a valuable final advice for all those entrepreneurs and startups who want to follow a successful path like Alfonso's, and we are left with his final reflection: "It's just about creating sexy solution for unsexy problems". No doubt we share this accurate vision of the path of innovation and talent.
On the same Wednesday, Alexandre Sánchez, member of the Innovation and Development team of the Cluster of the Valenciaport Foundation, participated as a juror in the vertical of Industry 5.0 of the Startup Competition.
It was a great opportunity to attend and evaluate the pitches that the startups defended at the South Summit: MiFoodRobot, SimpleCloudio, Nextel, AirTrace, Arkadia Space, CubexGlobal, KIT AR and ORRA Technologies.
Opentop also had a radio presence at South Summit. On Friday, Opentop's Project Manager, Jorge Marcos, participated in the Open Innovation Radio along with Marisol Menéndez, Chief Open Innovation Officer of South Summit and Cristian Ull Molina, Co-Founder of 101innovation.
In this talk, we reviewed the challenges and complexity that a port faces, the importance of innovation to face and solve that complexity, and the essential role that open innovation can play in the matter.
In addition, we took the opportunity to share how we face this challenge, with the regular holding of a hackathon, incubation programs, acceleration programs, and piloting.
As Jorge pointed out, the goal is to put all the players in communication, and that companies and corporations grow with the talent and innovation of the startups, which in turn will be enriched by participating in this ecosystem.
Everything experienced from Opentop's stand at the South Summit
During these days, we have had the pleasure of receiving many colleagues with entrepreneurial proposals from other sectors, strategic partners in the sector, investors, and important figures such asFrancisco Polo, High Commissioner for Spain Entrepreneur Nation, or Miguel Angel Mares from Cosco Shipping Lines. It was also great to chat with some participants of the II Opentop Hackathon that was held just a few weeks ago, who came to continue talking about entrepreneurship, innovation and projects.
Without a doubt, Opentop's participation in the South Summit has been a real success, thanks to the presence and support of much of the team that has been during these days sharing all the activity and purpose of Opentop, along with the support of Telefónica Open Future.
The Valenciaport Foundation relied on its strategic partner Telefónica Open Future for the development of Opentop, working side by side on all the value propositions that were also presented at the South Summit.
At this event, the following were present on behalf of the initiative: Jorge Marcos, Opentop Project Manager; Antonio Torregrosa, General Director of Fundación Valenciaport; Salvador Furió, Director of Innovation and Development of the Cluster of Fundación Valenciaport; Marina Sáez, Director of Communication of Fundación Valenciaport; Guillermo Fernández, Opentop project technician; Alexandre Sánchez, member of the Innovation and Development team of the Cluster of Fundación Valenciaport; andJulieta Medina, Opentop dynamizer.
What's next?
As we have been sharing during the celebration of the South Summit, in the coming days the initiative will announce the opening of the first call for incubation, which aims to attract entrepreneurs and startups in very early stages to address port logistics challenges that will be proposed.
Participants in this call will have access to a 3-month incubation program, with the best mentors, labs, connections with corporations in the sector, investment opportunities and access to a pilot environment in the Port of Valencia.
We are waiting for you! Stay tuned!
